In
1979, Rod Lee at that time a professor of Economics - started to sell micromounts via mail
order
to raise sufficient money to buy a stereo zoom scope. He succeeded.
The business grew, and he still uses that old scope. He really fell in
love with microminerals. Such beauty in such a small package.
Still, as
micromounters, you know the feeling.
Our logo - pulchritudo in parvitas -
beauty in smallness - sums up micromounting.
Maureen graduated from Durham College of Applied Arts and Technology in 1996
with Honors after completing the Three Year Business Administration Program
in Accounting. Maureen joined Simkev in 2000 and took over all the accounting
and myriad other office duties which go along with any
business. It is Maureen who answers all the emails, invoicing,
preparing and posting orders and making sure the Financial Statements
are prepared on a timely bases. Let us not forget the dreaded Income
Tax filing.
Recently,
Maureen started doing some traveling for Simkev and in October 2010 returned
from the United States with many, many prepared micromounts from August
Dietz Minerals as well as some superb specimens from Patrick E.
Haynes. All of this material will start to appear early in 2011.
This part of the business has proved to be quite exciting to Maureen and she
will make her first buying expedition to Tucson, Arizona in 2011.
We have and always will concentrate on acquiring the best quality
and variety of minerals available worldwide. Simkev has supplied more than 100,000 micromounts to collectors
and museums around the globe. Our reputation is based on constantly providing
top quality material at reasonable prices as we have said in our
letterhead and advertising over the years 'fine microminerals
for the discriminating collector'.
Now that we are on the Web, our emphasis
on quality, variety and value for money will not change.
